Knee Injuries & Treatment

Kneegeneral

Acute knee injuries occur commonly in sports that involve rotational twisting movements and changes in direction such as football, skiing, netball, basketball and various forms of dancing.

The most serious acute injuries include:

  • Cruciate ligaments (ACL and PCL)
  • Lateral ligaments (MCL and LCL)
  • Meniscal tears
  • Patella dislocation and instability

Knee pain can also be the result of chronic conditions such as:

  • ITB Syndrome
  • Arthritis
  • Osgood Shlatter
  • Patella Tendonitis
  • Patella- femoral pain
  • Patella maltracking and instability

An early professional diagnosis is essential in order to prevent further injury and disability. Specialist orthopaedic assessment is recommended (for details see Orthopaedic Assessment).
